TB using too much storage when compacting folders
Lately, I noticed that TB is quite slow at loading messages so I looked up for a solution and found that compacting folders could help a bit. The problem is that when I tried to compact some folders TB started to write hundred of GBs to disk completely filling my ssd and ultimately failing with a 'not enough disk space error'.
I don't think this is supposed to happen. Can I fix my inbox or should I start from scratch?

How big is your Thundebird profile folder?
It was 57GB somehow... I repaired every folder one by one and it went down to 3.3GB but TB's responsiveness has not improved. Even if I try to compact all folders some of them get downloaded again.
I'm on 96.0 beta 1. I've been using the beta version for some time now so it is possible that some bug messed up my files. I'm really tempted to delete the entire folder and start over.
Try rebuilding the folders in case compacting has made the situation worse. This essentially means deleting the mbox and msf files and starting with a new, empty folder:

You should of course exclude the profile folder from AV scanning to reduce the chance of folder corruption.
I'll try that thank you. The AV shouldn't be an issue
For some reason sometimes in the viewer it shows my entire inbox one email after the other even though only one is selected. I think I'll delete the profile folder and set it up from scratch

In theory it shouldn't, but historical data shows otherwise.
We are currently working on this issue. If you are still seeing the problem please post a new support topic.
