When I type a word or mispelled web address in the address/location bar, Firefox performs a search using a search engine. In my case, it uses an obscure Bresnan website and I want to use google. Is there a way to control which search engine it uses?

See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Location_Bar_search Check the pref keyword~46~URL on the about:config page: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Keyword%2eURL

To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the Enter key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website. If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.
