When I open a new tab, the back button won't work on the second page I view - only ever the second page, whatever the site may be.

When I open a new tab - or when I first open a browser - as soon as I move to a second page, I can't go back to the first. So, for instance, I open a new tab. I go to a news site. I click a headline. I can't then go back to the news site's front page. If I go back to the front page manually (by typing the url, or opening a bookmark) and then click the same headline, I will be able to go back.

The inability to go back only ever happens on the second page opened in a new tab or window. At all other times, I can go back as normal - but the first page I visited on that tab/in that window is wiped from the history.

This isn't something that's only happened with FF4, either. I first noticed it a couple of weeks ago, but I upgraded shortly after, imagining that it was a bug that the new browser would fix. But it's still that way. It's still refusing to go back from the second page to the first.

Solução escolhida

This issue can be caused by an extension (McAfee SiteAdvisor) that isn't working properly.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

You're quite right, as soon as I disable McAfee Site Advisor, everything was back to normal.

Thank you!

Seems to be the problem. Do you know if this is a Mozilla problem or if it's a McAfee problem?

This is like cutting off your big toe to get your foot to fit on the gas pedal without pushing on the brake pedal on your new car, turning off McAfee is unacceptable. The problem must be fixed in Firefox. What else do you have in mind?

It is up to McAfee to make their extension work in Firefox, so you have to wait until they release a compatible version of the McAfee Site Advisor add-on,

This is the same problem I am experiencing. I am running SiteAdvisor.

To SonOfTheDesert, how do I disable it? Can seem to find anything.

Tried to see if it could be removed. No luck. Reloaded it to see if it made a difference, it did not.

You're not turning off McAfee. Just turn of the Site Advisor extension. You can download Web Of Trust from the Mozilla addons site, it does the same job.

Forgot to say - the Site Advisor should be on the Extensions menu (now hiding under the Firefox button in FF4). Just scroll down until you see it.
