When attempting to import a certificate (.pfx file) I receive the following error message: "The PKCS #12 operation failed for unknown reasons." I have also tried converting it to a .p7b file, with no luck.

It is a GlobalSign certificate. I am attempting to import it into the Thunderbird certificate manager from my desktop. I transfered it from my phone originally.

what os the source of this file?

In other words, what kind of certificate?

  • personal
  • server
  • Certificate Authority
How are you importing it?

Have you selected the corresponding Certificate Manager category when importing the cert?

more options

It is a personal certificate. I was able to import it into the windows certificate manager prior to posting my question. I imported it under the "Personal" folder within the Certificate manager.

It is a personal certificate.

Is it your cert, i.e. does the .pfx file you're trying to import also contain the corresponding private key? Or is it someone else cert?

I imported it under the "Personal" folder within the Certificate manager.

Within the Certificate Manager Thunderbird has no "Personal" category. If it's your cert including the key, it would need to go into the 'Your Certificates' category.

Yep, it is mine. I have the private key. The error message I receive: "The PKCS #12 operation failed for unknown reasons." occurs when I attempted to import it into the 'Your Certificates' window.
