So, my brother's drunken best friend tricked me into using my computer, claiming it was for "job purposes"... only for me to find an, ahem, inappropriate picture as my desktop background. I want to delete it, but it's not anywhere on my computer (Downloads, Pictures, etc.), and I can only access it via the Control Panel - Personalization - Desktop Backgrounds.

Is there any way to delete it?

Thank you :)

Did he use your Firefox? In that case, check your profile folder as follows, either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
  • (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter

In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button. This should launch a new window listing various files and folders in Windows Explorer.

In the address bar, click "Firefox" or if there is a button to navigate upwards, click that twice. Right-click the file Desktop Background.bmp and choose Delete.

If you do not find the file there, go back to the Desktop Background Control Panel and look at the path on disk under Firefox. Note: By default, it's a hidden folder, so follow this article to make it easier to browse to: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/show-hidden-files

Finally, I suggest saving your Windows theme so that you can instantly switch back to your preferred display settings if you or someone you used to trust messes them up.
