Why is Firefox telling me my Java Plugin is outdated, but it's not?

When I check for updates, I'm told I need to update my Java Plugin, as it's "potentially vulnerable"! Well, when I go to Java's site, it tells me that on Macs, I just need to check my "Software update" program, and if it doesn't say anything's outdated, then it's not, as Apple creates their own Java. So why does FF insist it's outdated, when there is absolutely nothing I can do about it?

If you have the latest Java update then you can ignore the warning on the plugin check page. The JavaScript code used on that page can't detect every plugin correctly and sometimes has it wrong.
