all of a sudden last night something happened with youtube. every time i start a video on youtube its green for a couple of seconds and then it goes back to normal. its also green when i fast forward/jump and when i change between fullscreen and windowed. i've linked to a screenshot of how it looks because if i google this issue i find something else where people get a green screen but no image at all and that it lasts the entire video.

i've already tried to update drivers to my graphics card. i tried to play it on my nvidia card instead of using my intel hd graphics 4600 and still got the same result but instead of getting a green image it was really dark almost black. i've also tried to reinstall flash even downgrade to an earlier version but nothing works. and the strange thing is that i only get this issue on youtube and only through firefox so i even tried to reinstall firefox but that didnt work either

i have found 2 things that kind of help. the first fix is to deactivate hardware acceleration but instead of getting a green image for a few seconds the image freeze for the same amount of time and then play and it does this just like when its green, when i start it, jump and change to full or windowed.

the second fix i found in the support for mozilla, to change to HTML5 player. but even though this player works fine i don't really like it. for some reason the player pause when i change between fullscreen and windowed and i don't like those popups you get that its now in fullscreen and i can press esc to exit.

these are just minor things but i'd like to get the standard player back. if anyone know anything that might help me with this please let me know.

How about a little wild speculation?

Youtube uses a technology that chops up videos into individual bits and pieces, which probably makes videos easier to serve, but could create more opportunities for issues when moving around in the video. There is an add-on named YouTube Center which lets you disable this technology and go back to the old days of one big file. Could be worth a try.

Hi!
Can you give me your troubleshooting information?

  • Click the Firefox button at the top left, then click the Help menu and select Troubleshooting Information from the submenu. If you don't have a Firefox button, click the Help menu at the top and select Troubleshooting Information from the menu.

Now, a new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.

  • At the top of the page, you should see a button that says "Copy text to clipboard". Click it.
  • Now, go back to your forum post and click inside the reply box. Press Ctrl+V to paste all the information you copied into the forum post.

Can you try Safe Mode ot see if it isn't one of your addons misbehaving?

  • Hold the SHIFT key while double clicking the Firefox shortcut. (Firefox must be closed completely to do this)

can't find anything?

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox (you need to close and restart Firefox).

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

like i said in the first post, i tried disabling hardware acceleration but instead of getting a green image and sound for a few seconds the image freezes in the same amount of time while i still get sound. so every time i start a video, jump in the video or change between fullscreen and windowed the image freeze for several seconds.

i'm not sure but i think i had the same problem with having the hardware acceleration deactivated before i got this problem and thats why i activated the hardware acceleration.

i can watch videos right now with the youtube html5 player but i don't like it so i still want some help to figure this out.

and i have no idea why this happened all of a sudden. like i also said, i only got this problem in firefox so if i cant get any help the next step would be to uninstall firefox and move on to another browser. i've heard that google chrome's most similar to firefox.

thnx jscher2000 i just installed the addon and looked through the settings. i couldnt find any settings about enabling or disabling any kind of youtube technology except from the dash playback setting to buffer the whole video. so i enabled dash and left most settings as they were and changed some ui stuff and it worked! no more green screen, no more frozen image with and without hardware acceleration.

really nice addon with great settings in it. thnx alot
