I want each page of hits for google search to contain 100 hits. I login, change the number, save the preferences, exit the browser and it is reset at 10 again. On my desktop at home this fearture works fine even if I don't log in. Why does that matter anyway. Logging in is for an account and is not required for the browser.

Such details are stored in a cookie that you must allow: Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Exceptions" Make sure that you do not use Delete browsing, search and download history on Firefox to clear the "Cookies" and the "Site Preferences" "Browser History"
