How do I stop the "Getting Started with Mozilla Firefox" tab from opening every time I open FF?
Every time I open FF, the "Getting Started with Mozilla Firefox" tab opens. I have checked and it's not in my homepage list.
If I open any additional windows, it doesn't open.
But, once I close all of them and reopen it again, the tab opens.
I've had a similar problem with a couple addons (ietab) doing the same thing.

I found the fix for it.
In about:config, filter for 'startup'
The ones you want should appear at the bottom.
startup.homepage_override_url and startup.homepage_welcome_url
Double-click on each of them and delete the text string. Close and reopen the window to verify that it has worked.
As I deleted both of them at the same time, I'm not sure which one was the culprit. So, I suggest starting with override first and testing before deleting the other one.

Can someone kindly explain in non-tech speak how to fix this issue. Each time Firefox updates, I have this same issue and the "getting started with Mozilla Firefox" loads as a separate Tab alongside my default tab. I am running Windows XP Pro. Thank You in advance to whomever answers with a detailed explanation of how to fix this from happening now and in the future. For example, what is "In about:config, filter for 'startup'" and where do I find that? Under Run? Under FF tools?
about:config is typed into the address bar as if you were going to a web page.
It will popup a message warning you that you are messing with important stuff.
Just agree.

For me it was the "startup.homepage_override_url" setting. After deleting the text string all was fine again ;-)
Deleted the first one and it worked like a charm! Thanks a million!
In the address bar (when you type URLs) type "about:config".
Next type "startup".
Find "startup.homepage_override_url".
Double click it and delete, then click ok.
And you're done!
