With the Sync function of Firefox keeping my desktop and laptop in agreement, do I have any need for Xmarks?
I just responded to an Xmarks popup inviting me to revive my installation of Xmarks. I thought I had removed Xmarks already, because I have been using your Sync option happily. But being in doubt, I let it go ahead with the installation. So now I have both. Does Xmarks do anything Sync doesn't, and if so, what?

Don't use both Xmarks and Sync on the same devices, there have been a number of user reports here of conflicts when using both - such as corrupted data, lost data, or scrambled data.
IMHO, at this time you might be better off using Xmarks, assuming it has been working properly for you. Sync hasn't been working properly for about 5% of its users for a few months now; definitely not a proper level of service to brag about, IMO. And since the inclusion of Add-ons in the sync process, mention of capacity issues requiring more servers.
As far as the differences between Sync and Xmarks, I wouldn't know. I gave up on using it when it was slated to be shut down back in 2010, and then was acquired by Last Pass. I switched to Sync at that time, and feel more comfortable with the level of security provided by Sync (encrypted data before it leaves the users PC, and while on the Sync servers).

Could you please clarify on this? Thank you!
I don't know what you need to know.
1. I use Firefox.
2. I have Win 7 Ultimate running both machines.
3. Firefox has its own Sync function under Options. I have paired my machines.
4. Before that I used Xmarks for the same purpose: to make sure Firefox on both machines has the same bookmarks, passwords, bookmark toolbar tabs, and other settings.
5 . Is there any reason to have both Sync and Xmarks in use?
6. If only one is sufficient, what does Xmarks do that Sync doesn't?
Please tell me what other information you need.
