Why won't email filters work on the Wells Fargo spam ?

I can put email filters to trap any case variant of "WellsFargo" in the "From" section AND any variant of "Wells Fargo" in the "Body" section of an email.

But this damn Wells Fargo rubbish (also some Chase and American Express stuff) still comes through to may principal mail boxes.

How is this happening and how do I stop it ?

I created a new US Bank Spam filter.

Just a copy of your filter. It works.

But if I then add . . .

I've got it at last.

The From and Body field entries are not case-sensitive. But if you assume that they are case-sensitive and put in all the variants, this somehow causes the filter to fail.

Mostly because the sender is NOT Wells Fargo even if it looks like that. view full header and see if its not from any promotion-site That is if its from WF at all. It could also be a scam and pfishing attempt. Where "from" is spoofed to look like its a genuine WF mail.

Genuine WF-ads sent thru a promotion-site will have different from addresses. In the best interest of WF not to get all returned mail jamming there mail-server. And the promotion-site also takes care and manage interested answers.

Promotion-sites stay in business just because their mail doesn't get caught by filters.

As you see when you developed one filter the scene has changed.

Not the answer you wanted to get.

Well, what you say about "From" is no surprise. I only put that filter in as someone said that if the "Reply To" field was the same as the "from" field, then block that address.

But what about the "Body" content filter ?

All of these emails had the "Wells Fargo" string in them. Yet my filter can't block them . . .

In that screenshot you have "match ALL of the following" that won't work at all. So I suppose. But also you must controle that Wells Fargo is written with a space try setting " " around it or just use Fargo.

That sounds like nonsens to me. My reply field is the same as my from field. The email to you from TB-support has different reply to and from fields So either way its NOT a way to filter

Gnospen,

I've forwarded 2 examples of the Wells Fargo spam. (The "Subject" includes the word SPAM so your email client can treat them safely.)

I also made the spam filter "MATCH ANY OF THE FOLLOWING" rather than "MATCH ALL OF THE FOLLOWING".

But when I manually run this filter on my Junk folder, it makes no difference and there are no new entries on the filter log.

Thanks for your help.

Maybe I need to restart my PC to see if that activates any of the changes made.

Even when I make a From entry with the EXACT sender's email address, I still can't remove the related emails from my Junk folder.

Just a final note of thanks to Gnospen for his time on a May day Sunday.

Much appreciated.
