I have a site that is NOT saved in the password manager but when I start to type the UN in it auto fills and the PW fills in. This site has been in the password manager before but it is not now and I can not get it to save.

I have a second site that will not ask to save the UN & PW. It was in there at one time but I can not now save it.

Make sure you don't run firefox in Private Browsing, see other causes : Usernames and passwords are not saved

if the above is not helpful see also: How to fix preferences that won't save

thank you

I am not sure I am making my point. I have a site that will not insert the UN & PW when I open that site. However the UN & PW are saved in the password manager but are not used by FF when I open the site. The UN fills in as soon as I start to type in and if I click on it the PW also fills in.

My question is why won't it work the way other sites with UN & PW saved do,

I did make the perf file OLD and a new one was created but no change in the function with respect to the site in question.

Did you make sure that there aren't any entries from that domain present in the Password Manager?
Do you see any entries with an empty name in the password manager?
The site may be appearing under another domain.

You can remove all stored data from a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry (Show All History or History sidebar) to see if that removes the (saved) password and make Firefox ask to store the new password.

Using "Forget About This Site" will remove everything from that domain like bookmarks, cookies, passwords, cache, history, and exceptions, so be cautious if you need to keep passwords or other data from that site. You can't recover from that "forget" unless you have a backup of the affected files.

The website may be using autocomplete=off to prevent Firefox from saving and filling the name and password.

You can remove autocomplete=off with a bookmarklet to make Firefox save the name and password.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Interesting feature but since I save NO HISTORY the history file is blank. I will attempt to save history and then try it.

Even after activating save history there in NONE in the Show History File.

However history does show up as a drop down while I am typing to the address bar.

Firefox won't offer to store new passwords and won't auto-fill them if you are in Private Browsing mode (never remember history), if that is what you use to prevent storing history.

OK we are making head way. I now have a Today file in Show History.. If I open that file there are the most resent sites listed but after clicking on a given site there are no options as to what to do with it

Forget this site is not an option

No, that shouldn't be necessary.
If history is enabled then Firefox should start saving it immediately.

Problems with bookmarks and history not working properly can be caused by a corrupted places.sqlite database file.

You can also try to repair the places database with this extension:

I found a youtube video that looked simple but the current version of FF is not the same and no option to forget this site comes up once todays history is opened.

OK I worked my way through Forget This Site and removed the last entry to the site in question. Reopened the site and was asked to if I wanted to save the PW. I did. Shut down the computer and restarted it. Open the site and it did not fill in the UN & PW but did fill in the UN when I started to type it.

Same problem as before.

By the way Forget this site did not remove the bookmark for that site so I assume it did not remove other things for the site. Some comments have been posted that this feature never did work

If the bookmark wasn't removed then you may have a problem with the places.sqlite database file like I posted above and you may need to delete all places files in the Firefox Profile Folder to fix this.

There are 3 place files in the profile. Can I just delete them without making and OLD copy?

more options

Yes, you can remove all three places files with Firefox closed, but you may consider to move them to another folder for safety and remove them afterward.
Firefox should rebuild the bookmarks from the most recent JSON back up in the bookmarkbackups, so you should be cautious if you've made changes to bookmarks today and manually create a JSON backup and maybe an HTML backup as well.

With the Profile folder open and FF open I see 3 places files, places.sqlite, places.sqlite-shm, and places.sqlite-wal.

If I min the profile folder and close FF only the places.sqlite remains in the profile folder and I removed it. When FF opened the problem is still there.

I have searched directly for the places.sqlite-shm and places.sqlite-wal file using start search but can not find them.

How do I locate these second and third places files so I can delete them.

more options

Finally got rid of all three files. opened FF and attempted to sign into the site in question. I had to enter the UN & PW and the site opened. Closed the site and attempted to reopen. Problem is the same no auto sign in and as I type the UN it fills in and a double click on it fills the PW.

Lets leave this one for a while.

You mentioned you could get into Geocaching.com but that it was not an auto fill. Can you get me into that site?

more options

OK back to the Airforums site.

After deleting the places files and NOT asking to retain the UN & PW when I signed into the site I can now automatically sign into the site. UN & PW are not saved in the password manager but they are some how retained and work.

Update. Just took Yahoo, com out of the saved PW list and now I am signed in when I open the site.

Not sure what this means but I now have access to the 2 of the 3 sites I did not have before.
