New Install of Firefox 60.0.1esr on 2008R2 wont load any pages, including add-ons page
Hello,
I have just completed fresh installations of Mozilla Firefox 60.0.1esr on two different Windows 2008 R2 servers with the same results:
- The installation completes successfully without any errors - Firefox launches and opens the browser tabs without any errors - The browser tabs do not load any content even when 'known good' URLs are entered into the navigation bar - The same 'known good' URLs open and successfully load content when IE is used from the same computers - "Try Safe mode" and "Refresh Firefox" from the "about:support" page do not have any affect
Please help Thanks ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Let's start with;
Type about:preferences#advanced<Enter> in the address bar.
Under Advanced, Select Network.
[56+] Type about:preferences#general<enter> in the address bar. Look for Network. +++++++++++++++++++++ Look for Configure How Firefox Connects and press the Settings button. If you are using a proxy, make sure those settings are correct. If there is no proxy, first try No Proxy. If there is a problem, then try System Proxy.
Some problems occur when your Internet security program was set to trust the previous version of Firefox, but no longer recognizes your updated version as trusted. Now how to fix the problem: To allow Firefox to connect to the Internet again;
- Make sure your Internet security software is up-to-date (i.e. you are running the latest version).
- Remove Firefox from your program's list of trusted or recognized programs. For detailed instructions, see
Configure firewalls so that Firefox can access the Internet {web link}
Thank you for your quick and detailed reply Fred.
When I "Type about:preferences#general<enter> in the address bar", I get the same symptom where the page simply will not load. The Windows firewall is currently disabled and the symptom remains unchanged
Let’s do a full clean re-install;
Download Firefox; Extended Support Release {web link} ESR Notes System Requirements
Save the file. Then Close Firefox.
Using your file browser, open the Programs Folder on your computer.
Windows: C:\Program Files C:\Program Files (x86)
Mac: Open the "Applications" folder. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-download-and-install-firefox-mac
Linux: Check your user manual. If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it. See Install Firefox on Linux; https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/install-firefox-linux
If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder Firefox in your home directory. http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Look for, and remove any Mozilla or Firefox program folders. Do not remove the Mozilla Thunderbird folder if there is one.
Do Not remove any profile folders.
After rebooting the computer, run a registry scanner if you have one. Then run the installer. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++ If there is a problem, start your Computer in safe mode and try again.

Thanks again Fred,
I removed the Mozilla and Firefox program folders and I removed all of the Mozilla and Firefox registry entries before rebooting and doing a full clean re-install but the symptoms remained the same as before.
When I used "msconfig" to reboot the 2008 R2 server in "Diagnostic Startup (Load basic devices and services only)" Firefox began to work properly and pages were loading correctly.
Do you have any idea why this might be happening. The 2008 R2 maching is a virtual server on VMware.
Thanks gain for all of you assistance.
That sounds like one of your other programs is causing the issue. As a test, disable your protection programs.
Hi Fred,
I removed our security software and tried again with the same results. I then decided to step through disabling the startup services using "msconfig" to find out which one was causing the problem.
I have discovered that when the "Application Host Helper Service" is enabled, Firefox cannot load any pages but when that same service is disabled, Firefox works perfectly.
Any ideas on how to resolve this?
Thanks again for helping me.
Hey Fred,
Strike previous, it does not appear that the "Application Host Helper Service" has anything to do with the issue. It looks like the issue only happens when I connect to the 2008 R2 machine using RDP to launch Firefox but when I connect using the VMware console it works perfectly.
Sorry for any confusion.
As long as you know what the problem is. Do you still need help?
