What are you using for your home page? Does the browser otherwise work properly? What happens when you manually enter the web page in the address bar?

Make sure you are not blocking content.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

nothing was blocked, ran safe mode, still home page does not come up. it does come up when manually inserted

Type about:config<enter> in the address bar. If a warning screen comes up, press the I Accept the Risk button. At the top of the screen is a search bar. Type browser.startup.homepage
