There are a few third-party add-ons that will do this, a search of the Add-ons site for either YouTube or MP3 will reveal a few.

As for legality, I have no legal experience but checking the YouTube terms of service, downloading and converting content appears to breach the terms of service.

you can use http://grabandrun.com/ they will have soon also a firefox addon , safari already excist
