I can type into the translate panel, but when I push the translate button, nothing happens.

I'm going to lock this thread since the issue has been fixed by Google (it works for me as well), so thanks to all for their contributions and remarks.

Reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.
