Installed Thunderbird, set up an IMAP account. Only the Inbox and the Trash folder were shown in the narrow pane on the left.

I searched the community and the help, I did not find a solution.

I solved the problem by sending one message to another of my email accounts. The Sent folder magically appeared, with all the sent messages from the server.

Just thought this might help someone else.
