Trying To Access My Account Settings?
I have two accounts - when I try to access my account settings - Tools - Account Settings - Window for account settings: But, when I click on any of the choices (including my name) I get the following: "Account Wizard - An Account with this name already exists. Please enter a different account name." When I switch profiles and go into my wifes account I am able to access her account settings with no problem.
The rest of my Thunderbird account is working normally.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Account Names are used to Identify which account it is.
If your second account has the same name, which your trying enter your get an error.
My account has my name and my wifes account has her name - I have always been able to access my account settings before.
Check Attached image
I cant even get that far - when I open my account window, it shows the bottom portion (The following is a special account. There are no idenities associated with it. And in the side pane - my name is highlighted followed by Junk Settings, Disk Space, Outgoing Server (SMTP). This has always been in the bottom of the side pane, but now when I click on any of them I get that same Account Wizard message.
Also in the Account Actions drop down the only choices that are active are the Add choices.
If you are seeing the message you posted you are looking at the Local Folder and not one of your email accounts.
How about posting a screen shot of what you see so people do not have to guess what you see?
I have always been able to access my account settings by - Tools - Account Settings - My name (top portion) and then clicking on any of the choices in the side pane under my name. We are able to access my wifes account settings in her profile with no problem.
I do not know how to send a screen shot - please advise?
Well, I think I found the problem - just on a hunch, I re-downloaded Thunderbird 24.6.0 - now I am able to access my account settings normally just like before. It seems to have been a problem with the updated version of Thunderbird - but, I have seen other posts relating to problems when updating to a newer version.
Strange though that I could not access my settings in the newer version.
I'm having what appears to be the same problem. All Google Mail accounts can be edited without problems, one that is Office365 shows a problem.
From the Thunderbird main window, right click on the afflicted email account in the account tree and select 'Settings' the Account Settings dialog is displayed. From here if OK is clicked, with or without any changes, or if any of the other dialog panes are selected ( Server Settings, Copies & Folders etc.) then Thunderbird dislpays an error box 'Account Wizard' with the message 'An account with this name already exists. Please enter a different account name.'
As far as I can recall previously everything worked fine with this email account, and mostly still does - I can still receive and send emails with it - only the settings page is now broken apparently since the recent update.
This is happening on Ubuntu 12.04LTS and Thunderbird 31.0.
I re-downloaded Thunderbird 24.6.0 and all is good again - as you pointed out, it must be a problem with the upgrade it's self.
same problem since versions 31. How do I download version 24 again?
Go to a search engine and type in Thunderbird previous versions, you should get a link for 24.6.0. FYI, I just tried doing another upgrade again, the other day and the same thing is continuing to happen - I went back to using 24.6.0.
I have looked for some info posted on bug fixes with versions 31.0, but have not found anything.
I did do a search and just found spaming sites. Went to download.com and they only have version 31 sigh. yes, I've been trying to do this for a while and nothing on the forums. I actually started a conversation, but this one actually had activity. How long until the powers that be fix this type of thing? I was just wondering if you found a safe place to download version 24. Thanks for your help.
This is the official site and the first one that comes up when you Google Thunderbird Previous Versions.
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/releases/
Find the version you want. Select your operating system. Select your language. Then run the executable file.
V24.6 was the last general release that actually worked trouble free.
Here is the link that I used to download the previous 24.6.0 version. I used it twice (several months apart) and it worked just fine.
Well the oldapps site loaded a bunch of c**p onto my computer and I'm still taking it off. So no, that did not help. My thunderbird is still 31.whatever.
Airmail, how did you download that thing? It's just a list of files. Not sure what's up or if the oldapp programs are keeping me from "seeing" the site in pristine form.
Man, I did not need this tonight. Doing a major launch of an organization and this is not helping.
If you read my posting it tells you how to navigate your way thru it. As you found out never download anywhere but the official site.

I should have asked - are you using a mac or windows. I'm using a mac, but by mistake I sent you the link for windows. Here is the mac link:
http://www.oldapps.com/mac/thunderbird.php?system=mac_os_x_10.5_leopard_intel
I'm using OS Mavericks and the above link has worked well for me.
My apologies for not asking about your OS first.
I'm using a pc. it still download junk and two hour later, I may or may not have it cleaned up.
Airmail, yes, I understood your instructions. However, when I went to that site, it was just a listing of files, old style. Not a nice web page with options and choices, just a white page with black letters and a list of files. Thank you much for your help, and yes, I will only download from the producer of software, which was my usual modus operandi until I just got desperate to have the correct logo on my emails for the launch.
Pick your version. I suggest 24.6 OK so you are on a PC running Windows, you want win32. I assume you want English. I hate to assume. Then you have the choice of en-GB for British or en-US for United States. Then you see Thunderbird Setup 24.6.0.exe.
I guess I should include that navigating this page is just like moving through folders on your computer. You double click one and it opens. Repeat until you get to the exe file.
