new installation of firefox 56.02 on mac osx 10.13.2 no addons, no change of any settings except for 'never check for update'. i go directly to sign in firefox account for syncing. it took over an hour and a half and then the syncing just hangs. part of the data is synced. i forced quit it . i restarted firefox, the sync process started and then it hung again. i have deleted firefox and reinstalled again for several times, all the same problem. i am hoping to find a solution here. thanks for the help in advance.

I think sync in 57+ and in 56+ are a little different due to code but am not sure on that. Be prepared for 56 to update again as it will be forced up. 56.0.2 is no longer secure and is not supported.

If there was help needed for 57 to fix issues should have asked like now.

This is all I have for sync : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-set-sync-my-computer https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/products/firefox/sync https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-choose-what-types-information-sync-firefox https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-sync-troubleshooting-and-tips

Going back : unfortunately 56.0.2 and below is no longer safe to use for every day use do to secuity issues, but 52.5.2 ESR is. It will continue to get security updates until May 2018, and you can download and install it from this page: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/all/ Note : Legacy Extensions will be deleted or removed in any version update after May 2018.

You should make a backup of your Profile before going back and just because: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/back-and-restore-information-firefox-profiles
