Hi,

I looked for a solution to my problem, but my issue is that I don't know the technical terms for what is happening. So, I'm sorry if there's an FAQ out there that addresses this already.

The problem is that - Mozilla launches, it lets me type an address, and then... nothing. The dot on the favicon of the tab just goes back and forth forever. Meanwhile, Chrome and Edge work fine, so it's not my internet. In fact, I'm sending this message from Edge.

I tried refreshing Firefox, and then uninstalling completely and reinstalling, and it worked in the beginning, but then the problem came back.

Please help.

Best, Felipe

Hi Felipe, by any chance to you run Webroot security software? Firefox 97.0.1 was released today to resolve a deadlock with Webroot that prevents Firefox from working correctly (or at all).

See: Update Firefox to the latest release

If you do not run Webroot or that update does not help, another reason that Firefox might be dead from the address bar down is the following:

Sometimes program installers and uninstallers mess with certain shared Microsoft files, and this may trigger a message related to a missing VCRUNTIME140_1.DLL file. Firefox can't run properly without it.

To rule out that issue, you can (re)run Microsoft's installer for the VC Runtime files:

(A) Open https://docs.microsoft.com/en-US/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-160#visual-studio-2015-2017-2019-and-2022

(B) In the "Visual Studio 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2022" section of the article, download the installer for your system:

  • 64-bit Windows: the "X64" download
  • 32-bit Windows: the "X86" download

(C) Run that installer and restart Windows.

Any improvement?

Hi,

I do use Webroot and... it's working! :)

The one thing I will say is that I just booted my computer up again today, and I was signed out of Mozilla when I launched it just now. Before, I would already be signed in when I launched the app even after turning my computer off/on.

Thanks much! Felipe
