How to import bookmarks from laptop to desktop using Firefox 38.0 on both devices?
I am currently using Firefox 38.0 on both my desktop and laptop and need to import my bookmarks from the laptop to my desktop which also has Firefox 38.0. Please provide step-by-step details on how to complete this process.
Thanks,

Fairly simple and easy, but not only are there alternative methods, as is often the case in Computing, but the different methods give different results. The help articles have fuller explanations with step by step instructions and screenshots.
You have choice of four methods depending on what you are trying to achieve. Ask yourself which set of the bookmarks is the biggest and most complex?
A.) Export and Import This appends bookmarks. It tacks them onto the existing ones. (So for instance the laptop's: bookmarks folder and unsorted bookmarks, are now additional folders within the existing Desktops bookmarks menu. ) Useful to do simply what you requested: export the bookmarks from the laptop, and import those in to the desktop. However if the Desktop is new and only has a few bookmarks on it, but the Laptop has the major set then consider
- Exporting from the Desktop as an HTML file.
- Backing up from the Laptop to create a .json File
- Restore the .json Laptop file on the Desktop.
- Followed by re Importing the HTML file
- Desktop now has all the Laptop bookmarks, plus its own original ones
See
- Export Firefox bookmarks to an HTML file to back up or transfer bookmarks
- Import Bookmarks from an HTML file
B.) Backup & Restore This procedure over writes any existing bookmarks. It will retain the folder structure and any bookmark tags. Ideal if the Laptop bookmarks are the only ones you care about. Or combine both methods as suggested above.
C.) Manually Overwrite the Bookmarks and History DataBase. Not what you asked for but this also gets the History information. That is useful if you often rely on the addessbar acting as the awesomebar
D.) Sync
An alternative is to use Firefox Sync. That should ensure both the laptop and Desktop have the same bookmarks.
However if you do that backup your bookmarks manually before first Syncing bookmarks. I also strongly recommend if you Sync bookmarks that you make regular manual backups also, because Sync itself may occasionally corrupt and duplicate bookmarks. (If you do not notice this corruption quickly you may not have automated bookmarks that are corruption free.
