As per question. Upgraded to 60 now suggestions don't work in the address bar anymore I have checked and the settings for suggestions are all enabled Also some settings were reset, such as Ask where to download.

And yes I have tried it in safe mode and it's exactly the same.

Also I tried to downgrade back to 59 - but same problem.

Just to let everyone know, I followed these steps and resolved the issue (though all my history has been lost and not sure what else - but at least it's working - solution is like taking a sledge hammer to crack a nut, but hey):

1. Went to firefox profile 2. Close FF 2. Renamed all places files

HI, try this : Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove your Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. This process does not remove your Firefox profile data (such as bookmarks and passwords), since that information is stored in a different location.

To do a clean reinstall of Firefox, please follow these steps: Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.

  1. Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from this page) and save the setup file to your computer.
  2. After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (or open the Firefox menu New Fx Menu and click the close button Close 29).
  3. Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    • Windows:
      • C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
      • C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
    • Mac: Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
    • Linux: If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see Install Firefox on Linux. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
  4. Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
    1. Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
    2. Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.

More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found here.

WARNING: Do not use a third party uninstaller as part of this process. Doing so could permanently delete your Firefox profile data, including but not limited to, extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, personal settings and saved passwords. These cannot be easily recovered unless they have been backed up to an external device! See Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles.

Please report back to say if this helped you!

Thank you.

Thanks for your help.

I followed your instructions and unfortunately there is still no suggestions in the address bar.

Hi loginid, are you getting any of the 4 types of suggestions in the drop-down -- which ones aren't working?

  • matches in history
  • matches in bookmarks
  • matches with open tabs
  • search engine suggestions

Did you see any error messages along the following lines: Fix "The bookmarks and history system will not be functional" error message?

Not gettting any of these suggestions and they're all enabled.

Just typing into the box and not getting anything.

Also not able to press Enter into the box, have to press right arrow at end of box with mouse click.

  • sigh*

Hmm, could you double-check this setting:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful or accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste URLB and pause while the list is filtered

(3) If the browser.urlbar.autocomplete.enabled preference is bolded and "modified" or "user set" to false, double-click it to restore the default value of true

Normally, if you have enabled any type of suggestion, that will be true, but just in case.

It's not bold and is set to true.....

I remember going through a support question about the right arrow...

Is Firefox able to save new bookmarks and new history? If not, unfortunately, I think you need to dump the Places database and start a new one, unless the "Verify Integrity" button fixes it.

Please see cor-el's post here: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1221137#answer-1121661

When I verify integrity it comes with these strange messages:

> Task: checkIntegrity - Unable to check database integrity > Task: invalidateCaches - The task queue was cleared by an error in another task. > Task: checkCoherence - The task queue was cleared by an error in another task. > Task: expire - The task queue was cleared by an error in another task. > Task: vacuum - The task queue was cleared by an error in another task. > Task: stats - The task queue was cleared by an error in another task. > Task: _refreshUI - The task queue was cleared by an error in another task.

What does that mean?
