Cannot disable Message Pane

Ever since the last update I have not been able to disable the Message Pane. I minimize it but it still functions. I turn it on and off with F8 but it is still there. Whether visible or not, all incoming emails are marked as read. I don't want to use the Message Pane and I don't want email to be marked as read until I actually open them.

Try this: Help/Troubleshooting, Profile Folder, Open Folder, close TB, delete session.json, the file that stores the TB layout when it's closed. Restart TB and see if the Message Pane status is retained.

re :Ever since the last update What version are you currently using?

What OS are you using?

If you restart Thunderbird in Safe Mode do you still see same issue?

The link to the other thread above answered my questions and allowed me to also eliminate the spam toolbar from AVG. I do have Bitdefender and running everything on Win10.
