When I highlight some text to cut or copy, instead, it does an automatic google search and opens a new tab. I want to shut this feature off.

Also, the cursor disappears on some web page forms.

FF4 sucks. You did it the government way. If it isn't broke, fix it until it is.

Sounds as though you may have an issue with an add-on. Can you try Firefox's Safe Mode to see whether text selection and forms work normally on the same sites?

I suggest first backing up your Firefox profile folder. See Backing up your information.

Next, try starting Firefox in Firefox Safe Mode. Be careful not to "reset" anything permanently if you didn't back up.

Does it work as expected with add-ons disabled? In that case, one of them might not be fully compatible with Firefox 4. Some trial and error probably will be required to determine which one.

I don't have any add-ons, only a few extensions.

Yes, I meant it broadly. Firefox now uses the term "Add-ons" to refer to all extensions, themes, plugins and userscripts (Tools > Add-ons). Historically, extensions have been the most likely source of issues, so I think it's worth trying Safe Mode.
