Adobe flash plugin keeps crashing. Please help!

So my adobe flash plugin apparently keeps crashing and this has been going on for awhile now. When I watch videos on youtube, the audio will stutter. Sometimes the video will crash too and whenever I watch a video on teennick.com, the video is constantly freezing and/or crashing. I've tried using the 'safe mode" version of firefox and the problem still happens. This is so frustrating, someone please help.

acidhead, Thanks for reporting your solution to Flash lockups, which included reinstalling the Flash plugin after first doing a complete uninstall, including manual removal of leftover Flash files and folders.

Hi avwood, updating isn't very effective for Flash issues. Check out this post and see whether these steps help: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/que.../968190#answer-486523.

Also, you can post some of your recent crash IDs here to see whether a volunteer can provide a more specific recommendation. This article describes how to find those in Firefox: Troubleshoot Firefox crashes (closing or quitting unexpectedly).

I am also having the same problem. My computer is 100% brand new. We bought it two days ago. We have Windows 8 and use Firefox 24 as our browser. I downloaded Shockwave last night and we have the most recent version. All our drivers are up to date.

Shockwave began crashing IMMEDIATELY.

We do not use Norton in any way and it is not included on our computer.

So, this isn't just happening on older computers... it's happening on brand spankin' new ones, as well. EXTREMELY frustrating.

I have completed the following: (1) If you use any recorders/downloaders that interact with Flash media, make sure they are as up-to-date as possible, or disable them temporarily.

(2) Disable hardware graphics acceleration in Firefox and in Flash

(A) In Firefox, un-check the box here and restart:

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > General > "Use hardware acceleration when available"

(B) In Flash, see this support article from Adobe: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html#main_Solve_video_playback_issues

(3) Disable protected mode (Windows Vista/7/8)

BUT it has not solved the problem. A new problem has arisen which is a complete crash of FF24. It stops responding and does not recover. I had to switch to Chrome (Which by the way, I have had Adobe Flash crashes with). Maybe we need to start asking Adobe what is going on. The Adobe Flash and shockwave crashes still occur but less frequently.

Hi bobz6, can you post the crash ID for your crash? If Firefox won't run, you won't be able to use the about:crashes page, but you can copy it from a file. The second bullet in this section of the crashes article describes how to access the file: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-crashes-troubleshoot-prevent-and-get-help#w_get-help-fixing-this-crash

You also could see whether you can access the crash information in Firefox's Safe Mode. To start Firefox in Safe Mode, hold the Shift key down while double-clicking the Firefox icon. You should get a small dialog with two buttons. In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset).

Hi Juls69, your crash report shows you have Windows 7 and the Flash Player protected mode is enabled.

Disable protected mode using the method described in this Adobe support article under the heading "Last Resort": Adobe Forums: How do I troubleshoot Flash Player's protected mode for Firefox? (For 64-bit Windows 7, see also: this post.)

Please report back on degree of progress making that change and exiting/restarting Firefox.

None of the recommendations has helped me. I now use Google Chrome to play any kind of video game on Facebook and I use IE 10 to watch Vine Videos. Firefox 24 does not cooperate when playing anything Adobe Flash related (or if it does, it lags, freezes my brand new computer and finally flash crashes all together). We do not have anything on the computer that is interacting with any other programs, as we haven't even gotten around to downloading more, since we're afraid to. This isn't a problem with our computer. That is the only thing I am sure of. I shouldn't need 3 browsers on this. It is either an Adobe or Firefox problem, or simply a combination of the two.

Also, I have seen people posting questions over at Adobe's website, with the same problem (or extremely similar) as so many of us here and NO ONE is giving them any help. Adobe is pointing fingers everywhere else. Whoever is at fault, just own up already and fix your program. How hard is that, you know? I mean seriously.

Hi Tamserenity, I just read in another thread that there may be a problem with Flash 11.9 in Firefox 24. Are you getting the "unknown software exception (0xc0000710)" error message mentioned here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/que.../974074?

This did not help since I can't just add that line of code to the mms file...I tried. I got a message like "Cannot create the blah blah. Make sure the path is correct."

I uninstalled and reinstalled and the problem was ok for a few hours. THe problem is also with IE so I'm going to try reverting back to an older flash version

Hi slv1982, if you are looking for old Flash players, the installers are on this page: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/archived-flash-player-versions.html. For IE, try the one that specifically mentions IE. For Firefox, try 11.8.800.168.

However, the protected mode issue may persist. To ease editing the the mms.cfg file, you can drag a copy (hold Ctrl while dragging) to your Documents folder where you have full read/write privileged. Then edit the file there. Then Ctrl+drag it back to the Flash folder. Hopefully that will work for you. (Full steps listed here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/que.../973998#answer-489685)

Well I can't view anything in YouTube without the newest Adobe Flash Player apparently. I'm spending hours trying to figure this out! I've DL newer and older versions and followed the instructions to remove the mms file so I have no file now.

This is a nightmare.

Ok I've copied and reinstalled the newest (?) Flash Player. Hopefully this will last more than 24 hours! THANK YOU so far :-)

I am having the same problem in FF. I switched over to IE and no problem at all. So my question is: who is the culprit of this problem, FF or Adobe. Is this just a temporary bug and is either FF or Adobe working on the problem. I heard thru a friend that to avoid this in FF 24, I need to downgrade to an earlier version of FF and all will be ok? Is this correct, I don't want to jump through hoops to get this fixed and then create another problem. Thanks endoxazo

Hi endoxazo, Adobe issues different players for IE (ActiveX technology) and other browsers (plugin technology).

For specific comments on your crashes, you can post some crash IDs as described in the last section of this article: Troubleshoot Firefox crashes (closing or quitting unexpectedly).

This is some standard guidance that addresses the most common issues with the Flash Player plugin. I'm sure you've seen some of it before, but just in case:

(1) If you have any recorders/downloaders that interact with Flash media, make sure they are as up-to-date as possible, or disable them temporarily.

(2) Disable hardware graphics acceleration in Firefox and in Flash

(A) In Firefox, un-check the box here and restart:

Hi Jefferson & All,

I have been experiencing the same issues of the crashing Adobe Firefox plugin for about 2 years now. Tried all suggested fixes published by firefox, adobe as also by individuals on the many fora on this subject.

Unfortunately no concrete structural solution seems to have been found up to now really fixing the underlaying cause.

What I found as an alternative work around it until the time comes, is using private sessions where displaying is running smoothly. It does require conscious selection sometimes nevertheless keeps everything going for now.

Hope this helps somewhat, I will be lloking forward to publications on future fixes.

I have disabled Flash and shockwave in FF and my problems have disappeared. I find I do not need the Adobe programs but if I do I can open up in another browser.

I have this problem, but it ONLY HAPPENS WHEN LOGGED INTO A GOOGLE APP (GMAIL, FINANCE, ETC.). It does not happen for any other site (Yahoo, Facebook, etc).

I can cruise finance.google.com or youtube.com fine, but as soon as I login to Gmail, all pages with Flash crash.

Also, I do not have this issue with Firefox/Google on my work computer. Only my personal computer.

I have been researching this issue for months and found nothing. I am officially going back to IE (gasp), but only because I feel like Google might be intentionally doing something to screw with Firefox.

Well if you all still having this problem I fixed mine. So what I did was I uninstall the new version of flash removed it from system 32 using unlocker, then searched for flash 10.0.45.2 installed it and it works. Firs when I start youtube it complain about it and said its unstable :) ha right(works better then the new one), than I clicked on a video and a small window poped up at the top to allow/activate flasw to work (as you cant do this from firefox addons options) and then select alllow and remember. Done.

P.S deactivate from firefox options/advanced not to auto update.
