updates are disabled by system administrator

I'm looking at three different pc's - two are on a domain, the other is from a different domain and network. All three systems report that "updates are disabled by your system administrator" in the help, about firefox screen.

To my knowledge, the system administrator team (myself and co-workers) have not done anything to disable this. It also seems odd that a random laptop not related to my business' domain would have the same error.

What is causing the updates to be disabled? How can this be enabled?

Are you running Firefox on a limited account and not using the Mozilla Maintenance service? I believe that can cause this message to appear.

Either download Firefox from www.getfirefox.com and run it to update Firefox, or log in as an administrator to update Firefox.

standard firefox download from mozilla. the users logged in are local administrators.... pretty straight forward. I've not had any experience with the mozilla maintenance service.

That makes sense, the mozilla maintenance service. But the article doesn't describe why the option to manually check for updates is removed? See the screenshot I posted posted previously.

Can you install the latest version manually?

Try this:

Just curious whether turning off the use of the maintenance service, then exiting and restarting Firefox would bypass that message. You can turn off the service in the Options dialog under Advanced/Updates. See: Advanced panel - Accessibility, browsing, network, updates, and other advanced settings in Firefox.
