In the search or enter address bar whenever I type something a menu pops up below mimicking what i type.

My computer messed up recently and had to have it reset, I'm trying to get everything the way it was before.

I noticed when I reinstalled firefox when I type in the Search or enter address bar a big menu pops up under it mimicking what I type. My default search engine is google and in the bar that comes up it will show what i type and it has a "--- search with google" right next to it. Under it are a list of icons of different search engines saved in the search engine list.

Before I had to reset everything back to factory settings, in firefox when I typed in the search or address bar it would just show what i typed, no pop ups or anything. I was trying to figure out a way how to get back to that.

This question asked earlier helped a bit.

"browser.urlbar.oneOffSearches" set to false

But it doesn't completely fix what I was trying to do. It blocks out those other search engine icons but "--- search with google" still pops up and mimics what I type in the address bar.

Was wondering if there was a way to go back like it was before.

I figured it out, I must of missed it in the options. Don't even need to use the about:config.

Options - Privacy Security - Address Bar

I just unchecked all of those and it fixed my problem. I must of missed it when I was trying to get everything back to normal. Thanks for your help though!

If you want to completely disable the autocomplete drop-down, you can try this:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful or accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste URLB and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the browser.urlbar.autocomplete.enabled preference to switch the value from true to false

Does that work on yours?

Almost, it does exactly what I want except I can no longer type something in and hit enter and it searches for it. For some reason it disabled the enter key.

I have to manually hit the arrow -> to search.

Is there a way to have both? What your fix did but also typing in the box and pressing enter to search?

That setting should not disable the enter key. But it does. Since when?!

Anyway, you may need to allow one of the categories of data (bookmarks, history, open tabs, or search suggestions) until this is sorted out. You can turn the others off on the Options page. See: Address bar autocomplete suggestions in Firefox - "Changing your address bar settings" section.
