expand email alias
Thunderbird just updated itself to 60.3.1 on my Windows 8.1 box. When composing an email with the address book side bar (F9) I USED TO be able to add an expanded alias to the recipients. This is important since I tweek the recipients dpending on the content of the outgoing email.
In this latest version, that feature seems to have disappeared. I cannot seem to expand an alias. Is there some other way to do it?

You probably have the AddExpandedList add-on. It works in TB 60.3.1, but you have to change the preference extensions.strictCompatibility to false in Tools/Options/Advanced/General/Config. editor, OK to close Options (double-click to toggle a preference).

Not sure what you mean by an 'expanded alias'. If it refers to mailing lists, you can display the contacts by selecting the list in the sidebar, then Ctrl+I, then OK. Select the contacts, then click an Add to button at the bottom of the sidebar.
Expaneded Alias:
Let's say I have an alias naemd "Friends" consisting of addresses: bill@a.com, bob@a.com, tom@a.com, mike@a.com, joe@a.com.
If I select the alias then <Friends> is added to the "To" line. Instead, I want the individual names (bill, bob, ...) added to the "To" line. Previous versions of Thunderbird had an explicit option to do this. I think it said something like "Add Expanded".
Your suggestion helps. If I do Ctrl+I I get a list. I can then highlight the list and add them all to the email. Or I could select just those that I want from the list.
But where did the easier feature go?

Genius!
