Which earlier FF version is recommended for a Windows 7 with limited specs laptop?

Hi all, I had posted in detail about a month ago the problem with FF using too much memory and CPU, but, alas, with no reply.

I'm using a much older version, 52.8.1 esr, but even that is a memory hog, on Win 7 at least. I installed this version because I've used it on Win XP before with no problems.

The current version of Chrome, curiously, uses less memory and CPU.

Hi elzach,

We can't recommended older version of Firefox due to security concerns. You could install the latest version and reduce the number of content process. This should help to reduce the CPU and Memory usage. You can find the instruction in the Firefox's performance settings article at the "Reduce the content process limit" section.

Hope it will help you :)

You can create a new profile as a quick test to see if your current profile is causing the problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

Thanks Danny.

I'm not sure I can update to a latest version. I read some other comments on this issue, someone was satisfied getting his FF memory usage to 50% of his total physical memory of 12GB. I don't even have that 6GB of memory.

The problem becomes more severe on certain sites, for example I just loaded FB and Gmail and memory jumped by 500-600 MB with a constant 50-75% of CPU.
