Sometimes tabs take forever to open, 5 minutes and still waiting. The loading animation happens forever with a blank screen and never ends. Please help.

I have fixed this problem. It appears to be a Windows issue and not a Firefox issue. The solution is the tuneup.bat file given in this thread. https://www.tenforums.com/performance-maintenance/167215-how-do-i-stop-my-disk-usage-being-100-windows-10-a.html

Bump. Can anyone help?
Hi desbest,
short question: Which operating system do you have, which Firefox version do you run there, is it only for certain pages or happening on all tabs, is it specifically happening after a restart of Firefox (not a fresh start after normally closing the browser), ...?
Currently, I sometimes also encounter this problem. What I then do is usually to stop the loading of the page (either by pressing Esc key or by clicking on the "X" (else reload) button, and try to reload the page anew). If this does not help, I copy the URL and paste it into a fresh tab. I do not know why this happens sometimes (only sporadically), but the mentioned actions mostly work for me.
Best regards, Patrick W.
Windows 10 and Firefox 81. It happens on all tabs. I have not restarted firefox. The problem happens on 2 of my laptops so if I restart Firefox the same problem will happen again.
I have tried copying the URL and loading it in a new tab, but upon doing this, the tabs I just created also face the same problem of taking over a minute to load with the loading animation.
You sometimes have the problem? I experience the problem EVERY day. I think when I experience a problem with Firefox every day, that it should be solved.
Update I have uninstalled Firefox, deleted my profile, restarted my computer, then reinstalled Firefox with the extensions I had previously, and it still doesn't work.
Also Firefox keeps on freezing.
Hi desbest,
Are there specific websites you have this issue with? If so, send them over and we can try to reproduce the issue.
It's not a specific website that causes this problem, it's more due to what happens when 20 or 30 tabs are open at the same time. Software can appear to work for light usage and fail to work under heavy usage.
As I have an Intel i5 processor and 8GB of RAM, my computer's hardware should have no problem with there being 20 or 30 tabs open at once. This appears to be more of a software issue.
Firefox freezes and takes ages to open tabs, sometimes 30 seconds, sometimes 2 minutes, 3, 5 or 10 minutes.

Have you tried it with a freshly installed Firefox without any extension at all? You can also try to start Firefox with your current profile but without extensions, sometimes also called "Safe Mode", and try again whether the loading of the sites still takes as long. [Hamburger menu -> Help -> Restart with Add-ons Disabled] (Or you can create another profile using about:profiles and open it into a new browser window (besides your current one) and try to load the pages there - this will be a fresh profile without extensions.)
Please report of the result(s) of any action performed. Thank you!
I think I have fixed the problem.
The problem appears to be a Windows issue and not a Firefox issue. I have to do a DISM scan then an SFC scan to fix the problem. The scans take hours to complete, but a working computer is better than a faulty computer. Also the progress bar moves in quantised increments, so it only progresses forward once a certain amount of progress has happened, rather than the progress bar update continually after any progress. The purpose of this is to replace the corrupted Windows files used to run Windows, with properly working and safe files. DISM has to be run first as that provides the updated versions of files for SFC.
The scans haven't finished yet as they take a very long to complete, but after getting 31.2% complete I am noticing speed and stability improvements on Windows.
The process is described here. https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/929833/use-the-system-file-checker-tool-to-repair-missing-or-corrupted-system
For me I have to run the following in the command prompt as an administrator.
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth sfc /scannow
I'll let you know if the problem is fixed once both scans are complete.
Also upgrading Firefox from 80.1 to 81 and running Windows Update to run the latest feature update of Windows 10 (in my experience moving from Windows 10 1903 to 20H2) made Firefox run better with less freezes and crashes.
