The explanation of how to remove add-ons tells you to click on menu (and then 3 parrelel bars) What menu is that? I figured out(by trying each and every menu until I figured out it was the tools menu. when I get to the last step it says click the remove button. There is NO remove button at that point (just an enable button which is the last thing I want to do. I am talking about the Cinema ploos extension. It represents it's self as an upgrade with many improved features, but all it is is an add bot that is noisy and obnoxious and they want a one time fee (extorsion) to remove it

Hello,

I think the three bar menu you are referring to is the one on the far right of your toolbar, that looks like:

  • New Fx Menu, and from there you can click on Add-ons.

If you cannot find a remove button for the extension, that could mean that either it is a third party application hooking into Firefox and you will need to delete that from your Applications outside of Firefox; or it could mean that you downloaded a copy of Firefox that was not from the official site - you will need to uninstall Firefox, download and install a fresh copy from:

If you still seeing problems after trying the above two changes, it could be that the extension modified your profile. Please see the article:

It might help to list specific extensions you want to remove. If there are too many to type, you can extract a list as follows:

  1. Use ONE of these methods to open the Firefox Troubleshooting Information page:
    • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click on help Help-29 and select Troubleshooting Information.
    • Type about:support into the Firefox address bar and press the enter key.
  2. At the upper left corner of the Troubleshooting Information page that comes up, you should see a button that says "Copy text to clipboard". Click it.
  3. Now, come back to your forum post (https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1027350), right-click in the reply box and select Paste from the context menu (or else click inside the reply box and press the Ctrl+V keys) to paste all the information you copied into the forum post.

Usually there isn't any personal information, but please scan down through to make sure your email address isn't there, and you can delete lines starting from Important Modified Preferences to the end.

If you need further information about the Troubleshooting information page, please read the article Use the Troubleshooting Information page to help fix Firefox issues.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled a new copy of Firefox and still have the bad extension. One of you mentioned modifying my profile and it talked about "in profile manger" where and how do you get into profile manager?

I recommended you Reset your Firefox profile: Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings

Firefox will save these things:

  • Bookmarks
  • Browsing history
  • Passwords
  • Open windows, tabs and tab groups
  • Cookies
  • Web form auto-fill information
  • Personal dictionary

These items and settings will be removed: Extensions and themes, website-specific preferences, search engines, download history, DOM storage, security settings, download actions, plugin settings, toolbar customizations, user styles and social features will be removed.

To Reset Firefox, go to your about:support page and click Reset Firefox

If you want you can also try creating a new profile and seeing whether the new profile also has that extension:

When I Google the ID of the Cinema ploos extension, there are no results. This could indicate that it is randomized when it is installed on the system. Often the file or folder containing the extension code is named with that ID, so if you are searching on disk, you could try finding that.
