I have used Firefox for years and have never had a problem blocking pop-up window. Recently CBS,ABC and CNN dot coms all have been showing popups when articles are opened. I have Options>Privacy and Security>Block Pop-up Windows checked with no exceptions. That seems to have done the job until just a few weeks ago.

Has there been some change in those sites or perhaps in Firefox itself?

Thank you.

Go to the Mozilla Add-ons Web Page {web Link} (There’s a lot of good stuff here) and search for a good ad / pop-up blocker.

Thank you.

Yes but why would I need an add-on to do what FF has always done by itself until just recently? Is it a FF bug?

Yes, Firefox does have that. But the add-ons make it stronger.

Firefox is only updated once in a while, while the blocking add-ons get updates continuously.

Hello JGIL01,

In addition to the above - would you please read this article, especially where it says "Blocking pop-ups doesn't always work" :

Maybe you'd like to give this add-on a try :
