Like the title says, videos on YouTube or Twitch or Twitter all work perfectly fine. However, videos that are hosted by my university on their page or livestreams hosted on smaller news websites do not work. They often show the loading symbol for 30 seconds or so an then state "The media could not be loaded, either because the server or network failed or because the format is not supported." or "No video with supported format and MIME type found." I've tried safe mode (I'm in safe mode now as I type this), and I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Adobe Shockwave and Flash. None of these have fixed this issue.

One of the websites I'm trying to access is http://live.bhrt.ba/ . Any help is gratefully accepted.

If those major sites have no issue streaming that would mean it has to be coming from the hosting site itself that is causing this.

I had the same issue. I used several different Firefox including ESR.

The media could not be loaded, either because the server or network failed or because the format is not supported.

Contact the site support. Ask how the clip should be displayed (what player)

Sure but it's weird because the video from my university used to work maybe a week or two ago but now it doesn't work at all.

I would say ask them did they change a protocol or how they stream or limit the bandwidth stream? Maybe your ISP to the College is throttle what is streamed?

tIf you use extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) that can block (wanted) content (Adblock Plus, NoScript, Disconnect, Ghostery, Privacy Badger, uBlock Origin) always make sure such extensions do not block (wanted) content.

Firefox shows the shield icon at the left end of the location/address bar in case content is blocked by Tracking Protection.

  • click the shield icon for more detail and possibly disable the protection
  • check the Web Console for more detail about what content is blocked by Tracking Protection
  • "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Web Developer
