What site is that?

I had a problem with a site where, within in the site, the URL was not secure, but it was getting redirected to secure (https).

Do you happen to have the DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials Extension? If you do, turn off the Site Privacy Protection for that site. Then report the problem to DuckDuckGo.

You should not need to make exceptions for well run sites. If this affects any sites that handle sensitive or personal information, we are happy to help you investigate why Firefox considers your connection to the site suspicious. If security is not important for that site, then it may not be worth further investigation.

Also extension HTTPS Everywhere.

Do you get any error messages ?

SAFE MODE

In Firefox Safe mode these changes are effective:

  • all extensions are disabled (about:addons)
  • default theme is used (no persona)
  • userChrome.css and userContent.css are ignored (chrome folder)
  • default toolbar layout is used (file: localstore-safe.rdf)
  • Javascript JIT compilers are disabled (prefs: javascript.options.*jit)
  • hardware acceleration is disabled (Options > Advanced > General)
  • plugins are not affected
  • preferences are not affected

True enough, indeed. In my case, it was with Weather.COD.Edu and the DuckDuckGo Extension (See image in my previous post). Weather.COD.Edu said their site will be going secure, soon.

Hi Euticus, the HTTPS Everywhere extension is another one that sometimes forces HTTPS when it won't work in Firefox. (The extension may detect that a secure connection is possible but then Firefox may not accept the certificate.) I think such extensions may provide a toolbar button which allows you to make exceptions when needed.
