Jim_again So, it is not plugin-container. You have something else, an Extension or another plugin causing the problem.
Although posted before in these threads about plugin-container, here it is again:
Firefox Safe Mode You may need to use Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode (click on "Safe Mode" and read) to localize the problem. Firefox Safe Mode is a diagnostic mode that disables Extensions and some other features of Firefox. If you are using a theme, switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes before starting Safe Mode. When entering Safe Mode, do not check any items on the entry window, just click "Continue in Safe Mode". Test to see if the problem you are experiencing is corrected.
See: Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems Troubleshoot issues with plugins like Flash or Java to fix common Firefox problems Troubleshoot and diagnose Firefox problems
If the problem does not occur in Safe-mode then disable all of your Extensions and Plug-ins and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears. You MUST close and restart Firefox after EACH change via File > Restart Firefox (on Mac: Firefox > Quit). You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window.
Im experiencing nothing but a large consumation of memory when playing Flash stuff in sites like Youtube. The CPU's are constantly working on this program. While I need them to work on Firefox itself. It is jumping through the memory usage completly irradically, and stops certain things from working smoothly.
It does for me completly mess up the web browsing experience. As it surely will be an improvement, but its got major bugs so far and those make it very annoying update.
Ive got lots and lots of memory issues with Youtube mainly, and other sites using flash. If you open for instance 3 windows with all somekind of flash thing going. Im not able to instantly switch screens. And or have to wait for seconds before firefox unlocks so to speak and gives me the other screen. When listening to music, or checking out a full episode of topgear for instance its real B...ch if you want to do multitasking with other sites and screens.
This is THE worst addon for Firefox in what 5 years? Ive allways been die hard supporter, and remain so but please please pretty F'ing please fix this thing!
I had to completely uninstall and remove ADOBE from my computer as it was causing script problems. Now all is quiet, but I can't do much n the web now regarding videos etc. and i can't see most of ads.
Jim_again: I forgot to ask you, did you ever use the following to check if all of your add-ons (especially Flash) is up-to-date:
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/
You might have an out-of-date Flash which causing you the problem:
http://www.adobe.com/support/security/advisories/apsa10-01.html
Did you try to reinstall Flash (its latest version) to see if the problem still exist?
I also blocked it immediately from running thinking it was something that could harm my computer. I know when I'm executing something that will require access and I wasn't. They should have warned us about this. BIG STUPID MOVE MOZILLA! I'm going to try and find out more about this plugin and if its possible to disable it. Well Not that! NOTE: ITS POSSIBLE TO DISABLE PRACTICALLY ANY PROCESS. Its just a matter of if things will function properly without it. If anybody does wish to disable the process from running then simply go to "run" and type in "msconfig" then locate plugin-container.exe in either the startup processes or services. (I haven't checked yet so don't know exactly but it should be in there somewhere). Simply click on it and disable it. You'll be required to restart your computer and ask that it not keep reminding you that its in "selective startup mode" ...
If you close the .exe it will close the plug in for any game you are playing
I am now switching to Google Chrome, bye Mozilla. It was a 4 years love story.
Download an older version:
http://download.mozilla.org/?product=firefox-3.6.3&os=win&lang=en-US
Sub in whatever version you want to use in the URL firefox-3.6.3 firefox-3.6.2 firefox-3.6.1 firefox-3.6.0
You guys are getting as bad as microsoft. This thing eats up my memory & I don't like it one bit. My Girlfriend can't watch youtube anymore because of this stupid plugin.exe thingy.
Get rid of it!
The good news is that as soon as I got rid (uninstalled) of that horrible ADOBE and all of its plugins I stopped receiving the mass spam I've been receiving after installing it in the past! Once I did that, Firefox won't show me any videos, so I began using Chrome instead. The IE8 is so ugly, same as Bill Gates. The other good news is that Google Chrome browser does not need any plugins to watch videos on Youtube!
After upgrading the Firefox and the inclusion of plugin-container.exe can no longer view the videos on the site http://www.gametrailers.com (only this site has presented problems of compatibility, I believe, with this plugin).
plugin-container.exe crashes alot when viewing sites with flash. its annoying.
I originally said i would wait 2 weeks to see what you decide to do. I've read your apathetic, removed run-of-the-mill responses.
As I said originally. FF has never had security issues for me, and above and beyond that i use a browser firewall. I'm not concerned about about security, b/c you've always done a great job with it. Now all of the sudden you pretend this cpu hogging .exe is going to protect security? Only thing it did was make a huge percentage of users leave FF.
What I am concerned about is your link to media giant google, and the implications an action like this poses. To me, a very intelligent individual, and prior to this a huge supporter of FF, this appears to be an unnecesary .exe which is collecting boatloads of non-personally identifiable information.
I can clearly see you show no intention of rectifying this problem, removed I will have no part of your removed. I am removing FF tonight. GOODDAY SIR, and I will do my part to tarnish FF's once prestigious name. Everyone else out there! Do you part as well!!
Removed obscene language. Please read the rules and guidelines at https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Forum+and+Chat+Rules+and+Guidelines - FF4L
Profanity not allowed. Will soon be removed by Moderator in both TMJ and Anonymous (completely removed) posts.
"Now all of the sudden you pretend this cpu hogging .exe is going to protect security" No such claims. The new plugin-container.exe is about keeping your browser from crashing due to the crash of Adobe Flash, Silverlight or Quicktime. See: https://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/3.6.4/releasenotes/
TMJ, if you have evidence for the following, why don't you cite your references: "What I am concerned about is ~~red:your link to media giant google~~, and the implications an action like this poses." "...this appears to be an unnecesary .exe which is ~~red:collecting boatloads of non-personally identifiable information~~."
