Firefox does not open but I see the firefox service running
I'm trying to run Firefox 3.6.12 on my Acer Aspire netbook running Windows 7. It used to work and stopped a while ago. When I try to instantiate the program, it looks like it is starting but nothing ever seems to happen - Firefox does not open. However, when I go to services, I do see firefox there. I've tried doing a complete uninstaller with Advanced Uninstaller Pro and have deleted all references (including my personal items such as bookmarks and addons) to firefox in the registry. Still no go. Please help - I'm stuck in Internet Explorer hell!

There may be a problem with the profile (location where Firefox stores user data). The profile is not normally removed when Firefox is uninstalled.
Try running the profile manager and create a new profile, for details on doing that see Creating a new Firefox profile on Windows - MozillaZine Knowledge Base
I tried entering firefox -P at in the appropriate dialogue box in windows 7 and nothing happened except firefox started as a service. I even went to %appdata%\Mozilla\firefox\profiles and deleted everything there (I deleted everything in in %appdata%\Mozilla when uninstalled firefox and reinstalled it again.
I even thought it might be something wrong with the install file so I downloaded firefox 3.6.11 but that didn't work either.
I am really puzzled.
Anyone?
Dov
I'm still unable to run firefox on my Acer AspireOne running win7. It did work up until 2 mos ago but then stopped and even if I do a complete uninstall and reinstall I get the same problem.
Please can anyone help?
Thanks,
Dov
You need the instructions on this page: http://macles.blogspot.com/2008/07/installing-firefox-3-on-acer-aspire-one.html
I followed these and got things working again :-).
Please IGNORE this response, it is for Linpus Lite Linux, NOT Windows 7
There is a fix for this issue with Firefox 2 on an Acer Aspire One running Linpus Lite Linux here: http://linuxforums.org.uk/netbooks/acer-aspire-one-linpus-lite-firefox-web-browser-wont-open/
Including instructions to install Firefox 4: http://linuxforums.org.uk/netbooks/install-firefox-4-on-an-acer-aspire-one-running-linpus-lite-linux/
My appologies to the OP, I missed the Windows 7 part ;)
