How do I delete my away message. Its causing return failure to appear
I created an away message - hoping it would appear but instaead all I received are 'Mail Delivery Sytem failure - This message was created automatically by mail delivery software.
A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address failed:
"mailer-daemon@kundenserver.de": SMTP error from remote server after RCPT command: host: mxint02.1and1.com unrouteable address
I have received over 40. I cannot go to 'Filter' or anything I did to create the message so I would like to know - short of removing Thunderbird from my system how to delete the away message
Thank you

I think if it says "Mail Delivery Sytem failure - This message was created automatically by mail delivery software" then something other than Thunderbird is responsible, unless you yourself carefully crafted this exact message.
Thank you. But its not theasiest thing to do - set up an away message. Findng where you made (temlates) and editing when it appears is not obvious. I set up Thunderbird for my email but never knowingly went through any other supplier
It is best to set up 'out of office' replies in the webmail account. Otherwise, you have to leave both computer on and Thunderbird running for Thunderbird to work. Not perhaps the safest method.
You would have composed a simple 'I'll get back to you' type of email and save it as a 'Template' with a subject like 'Away response' and do not enter any TO or CC or Bcc email addresses.
You would then create a Message Filter.
select: 'Getting new mail' and 'Filter after Junk classification' Match all of the following 'FROM' and 'is in my address book' (after all you do not want to respond to spam) Perform these actions 'Reply with Template' and select the 'Away response' Template email you created.
Perhaps you could see what you have that is different.

Hi Toad Hall
I did what I saw in teh instructions but I tehn received mailur falure send messages. I created a filter - I was surprised it didn't ask yiu to name the filter! Now thinking I did something wrong but can't find teh instructions I used! Not the easiest thing to set up on Thunderbird
I now wish to delete the filter but ther Filter tab is greyed out and not clickable.

Not sure where you are looking but try this.
'Tools' > 'Message Filters'. or 'Menu icon' > 'Message Filters' > 'Message Filters' make sure 'Filters for: has selected the correct mail account.
To remove the filter:
- Select the filter and click on 'Delete'.
To create a Filter:
- click on 'New'
- Give the filter a suitable name eg: Out of Office
- select: 'Getting new mail'
- select: 'Filter after Junk classification'
- Select: Match all of the following
- select: 'FROM' and 'is in my address book' -(after all you do not want to respond to spam)
Perform these actions
- Select: 'Reply with Template' and select the 'Away response' Template email you created.
- click on OK
Then make sure the Filter is at the top of the list as the top ones run first.
