I have a new Macbook Pro and downloaded Thunderbird v. 52.3.0. The same version is on my Mac desktop. The desktop and previously TB had an option to right click on an email message in the folder's toolbar which would open a menu offering items > 1. 'Move to New Window' 2. 'Close Other Tabs 3. 'Close Tab'. This option is not on my new Macbook laptop? I used the option a lot in the past but others didn't?

It isn't on the toolbar. You right-click any of the visible message tabs.

Zenos Thanks for the reply. I didn't phrase it correctly. I have been right clicking on the message tabs and it worked in the past and does now on my mac desktop. But on my new macbook, right clicking on a message tab doesn't bring up the menu ...'Close other tabs'...etc. It brings up the message itself ?? Don't know if its TB or the computer?

I don't know much about macs. I remember a roomful of us falling about with laughter when we first saw the mac's one-button mouse. This at a time when multi-button gaming mice were just becoming popular.

Occasionally we say "right-click" and the mac owner replies pointing out he doesn't have a right-click. At which point we have to say that if you run software that relies on a right-click (and particularly cross-platform software such as Firefox and Thunderbird), there has to be some way of imitating a right click.

Opening the message does suggest it interprets your click action as a left-click, since opening the message in a tab is exactly what a left-click should do.

What do Apple say about how to right-click? ISTR reading that command+F2 could do it, but that's probably very old (and therefore out of date) information. If you have a right button on your mouse or touchpad, is it working in other contexts? :-(

FWIW, here on this Windows machine, the close other tabs option is till available in TB 52.3.0. And I'm pretty sure it's still there on my Linux system at home.

I have an Apple Magic Mouse and the right hand click does work in other situations. The 'Command - F2' didn't work or i didn't do it correctly. Thanks for your help.

Zenos My problem with 'Close Other Tabs' has gone away! You may be familiar with Apple Preferences. In the 'Mouse' preference there is an item in it called 'Secondary click' which enables mouse right side clicking. Not sure how or why but it needs to be on to get 'Close other tabs'. Thanks again
