I'm trying Firefox again after many years in the Edgy wilderness. In Firefox in Windows, you used to be able to specify where your bookmarks were located. I store all my files (documents, spreadsheets, etc) in a complex structure on my C drive and, ideally, I should be able to store my Firefox bookmarks in the same structure. It just doesn't make sense to store the bookmarks in a separate location. I'm pretty sure you used to be able to do this by specifying the root of the bookmarks structure as c:/Documents, but I can't see how to do it in the current version.

For at least a decade, Firefox has used a database file in your profile folder for bookmarks and history (the Places database).

You can set up Firefox to export your bookmarks to a location on disk as a backup, but it's just an export, not a live file used by Firefox. Maybe that is what you remember? More info on that option:

Mmmm, I guess my memory is wrong. Maybe it was another product.

Thanks for taking the time.

This could have been about using an extension to share the bookmarks with Internet Explorer (Plain old favorites).
