Whenever you get a message / popup that software / files need to be updated,

DO NOT USE ANY OF THE PROVIDED LINKS.

While this may be a legitimate message, it could also be Malware or a Virus. Any time you want or need to check for upgrades, go to the web site of the True Owner of the program in question. For example, to check out Firefox, go to Mozilla.org or Firefox In Any Language.

Your Firefox appears to be the current Firefox 26. Your details aside show the expected Users Agent String:

  • User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:26.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/26.0

You did not give full troubleshooting information when posting the question so I do not know what extensions are installed. I will not ask you to provide them at the moment, but do you sometimes uses something that hides the Firefox version or pretends to be something else ?

If not then maybe it is malware or some website trying to scam you. Please provide a screenshot of the message. See

OK thanks for posting back. While waiting for the problem to reoccur you may wish to try some additional scans.

When checking for malware it is often a good idea to use multiple up-to-date tools because a single tool can not be expected to detect all problems, and often someone with malware may have more than one problem.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good FREE permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.
