Hello,

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that turns off some settings, disables most add-ons (extensions and themes).

If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:

  • In Firefox 29.0 and above, click the menu button New Fx Menu, click Help Help-29 and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
  • In previous Firefox versions, click on the Firefox button at the top left of the Firefox window and click on Help (or click on Help in the Menu bar, if you don't have a Firefox button) then click on Restart with Add-ons Disabled.

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:

  • On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
  • On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.

To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.

I started firefox in the safe mode. Nothing was different. I tried clicking in a blank area to bring up the "view" icon so I could turn the toolbars on but I couldn't find a view icon. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

The toolbars appear on the monzilla support site. My home screen is www.att.net and that is where I can't get the toolbars. I hope this helps

and

Remove Cookies
Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy.
Under History, select Firefox will Use Custom Settings.
There is a button on the right side called Show Cookies.

If there is still a problem, Start Firefox in Safe Mode
While you are in safe mode; Firefox Options > Advanced > General.
Look for and turn off Use Hardware Acceleration.
Poke around safe web sites and see if there is still a problem. Then restart

Maybe I'm the dunce of the day but I can't find a place it clear the cache. I found options but there was no dropdown to clear the cache. I appreciate your effort to help but it is obvious that you know where to look and I don't. I find this very frustrating as my first job as a computer repair technician was in 1967. I try to keep up but I just can't seem to find the right path.

Hi cartdriver, the old "Firefox" menu that FredMcD mentioned has moved to the "3-bar" menu button at the right end of the toolbar. So:

  • "3-bar" menu button > Options > Advanced > Network mini-tab

If you don't have the main toolbar, you can display the old menu bar temporarily by pressing and releasing the Alt key on the keyboard. So:

  • Alt key > Tools > Options, etc.

If the menu doesn't show, just to make sure, you're not in Firefox's full screen view, are you? The F11 key switches between full screen and regular views.

By the way, Firefox 29 consolidated the old Add-on bar (appeared at the bottom of the window) into the main toolbar. If you are missing icons from the Add-on bar, they may appear on an overflow list on the main toolbar.
