I woke up my PC from hibernation and Firefox was closed (no Firefox crash message). I reopened it and it asked if I wanted to restore my last session. I clicked OK and all my tabs appeared. The problem was none of them loaded, and when I clicked on them, the tab title would change to "New Tab," and in some cases the URL would just disappear. I tried restarting my PC, and still got the error. Then I reset Firefox per the instructions, and the problem only got a little better. Now none of the tabs change to "New Tab," but none of the webpages load. They just sit there with the loading icon in the tab and a white background on the browser.

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.

It sounds that there is a problem with the sessionstore.js file if your tabs do not get restored properly.

Do you otherwise have a problem with restoring the previous session either via "Show my windows and tabs from last time" or via "History > Restore Previous Session"?

The problem originated when I reopened Firefox and tried to restore my previous session, so to answer your question cor-el, yes I do have a problem restoring my previous session. Since performing a few of these troubleshooting actions, I've closed all my tabs and tried starting a new session - I still can't load any webpage. I've also reset Firefox to default settings, so there are no add-ons that would be affecting its behavior.

I was able to solve the problem by uninstalling and re-installing Firefox.
