Hello, I watch my slingbox through firefox daily. Since Firefox 22 came out, I can't watch my slingbox. I have deleted and uploaded again the add-on but still can't see it. I called Slingbox and they are able to access my slingbox with no problem.

Often, in the lower left hand corner I get a " waiting for api.extensionupdate.com " message.

Any ideas?

Thank you

To completely block a particular domain, you can use any of these methods:

  • If you have security software that includes a site filter, enter the domain in the filter
  • Install a filtering extension into Firefox (e.g., BlockSite) and enter the domain through its options
  • Add the site to the Windows hosts file with a local address

I'm not sure which is easiest in this situation.

I'm not sure what to make of this support thread, where something is fixed, but it still doesn't work for everyone: Slingbox Answers Forum: Just upgraded to firefox 22, watch slingbox not working.

The extensionupdate.com domain is registered anonymously, so it's unclear who is behind it. The page cached by Google refers to analytics (i.e., tracking). Hmmm...

If Slingbox works by using a plugin, then you could test the site in Firefox's Safe Mode and see whether it works there. That's a standard diagnostic tool to bypass interference by extensions (and some custom settings). More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using

Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset)

Any difference?

Hi Jscher2000,

Thanks for trying but even in safe mode when I go to watch my Slingbox and open the Slingbox software ( either at their website www.slingbox.com or from my favorites ) I am asked to install their plug-in. After downloading, nothing happens. Often the same message is still in the lower left hand corner " waiting for www.apiextensionsupdate.com"

Is there any way to block the api site?

Thank you very much,

Regarding the plugin, if you check the Add-ons page, is it listed?

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Plugins category

If not:

  • Can you verify that Firefox is set to scan the registry for new plugins? That setting is accessible here:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.

(2) In the filter box, type or paste scan and pause while the list is filtered

(3) If plugin.scan.plid.all is not set to true, double-click it to restore it to its default value of true.

You might need to exit and restart Firefox to trigger a fresh scan. Does that help?

  • If Firefox was already set to scan, the plugin registry file might have become corrupted. You can have Firefox regenerate it as follows:

Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using

Help > Troubleshooting Information > "Show Folder" button

Switch back to Firefox and Exit

Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename pluginreg.dat to something like pluginreg.old

Restart Firefox, and it should re-scan available plugins. Does that help?

Thank you, Jscher2000, I am trying to find somebody locally ( I live in Taipei, Taiwan ) who can understand your first suggestion.

Out of nowhere my Slingbox started working in Chrome so at the very least I can still watch US tv.

But...getting this to work in Firefox is still my goal. I will try to find somebody who can understand your first response.

Thank you very , very much!

Sorry Jscher2000 for the delay in getting back to you but my computer went down completely ( motherboard needed replacing). But...because of your post ( api.blahblah was anonymous was very strange to me, I am a beginning but you are advanced and you didn't know this? that couldn't be good ) I watched very closely as Mozilla tried to connect with the Slingbox. A number of sites popped up very, very briefly. There were a couple of sales/couponing sites that I never subscribed to. I went into my programs and features in my control panel and saw there were 3 of these sales apps. Not sure what I did to download them but there they were. After deleting them Mozilla is now connecting fine to my Slingbox both before the replacement of the motherboard and after. Thank you very, very much for the assistance.
