I have not changed the password for my e-mail account, but Thunderbird will no longer let me in using what I know to be the correct password. What next?

Without anything else changing, I suddenly lost access to my Thunderbird e-mail account just before going abroad last month, but wasn't able to follow this up until my return. I assume that the password that Thunderbird is requesting is that for my e-mail account, but each time I enter it Thunderbird rejects it. (I have checked that I am using the correct password).

I have been offered a password re-set by Thunderbird (even though answers to some other questions suggest that this is irrelevant), but in that case why is it offered? After two requests I still haven't received the link anyway.

What can be done to rectify this problem?

What is your virus protection

Avast! Which has been the system that I've been using since some time last year, so nothing has changed there.

Fore some reason I cant connect to the knowledge base and give you a link. But often with some virus protection (VP) you have to add Thunderbird to the list of excepted software. After an update some VP doesn't recognize the new version of TB. That can result in TB dont getting an anwer. Go into Avast and see to it that TB is allowed.

Thank you, but on going into Avast! (which I haven't done previously) I can't find any way of checking what is banned. Where, please, should I be looking in Avast?
