YouTube Notifications Not Loading
The notification bell on YouTube doesn't display anything when I click it. It drops down a blank white rectangle instead of showing me messages like someone liked a comment or mentioned me in a post. It doesn't even show the red speech bubble of how many unread notifications I have. It does work in Chrome. I tried clearing all my history and cookies and stuff, changing some settings in Firefox, and I tried toggling some options in YouTube itself and still no dice.

I forgot to try running Firefox in safe mode. While in safe mode it works but I can't find what's causing it. I manually disabled all the add-ons and it still didn't fix it.

Did you check the Adblock Plus filter rules?
If it works in Safe Mode and in normal mode with all extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) disabled then try to find which extension is causing it by enabling one extension at a time until the problem reappears.
Close and restart Firefox after each change via "Firefox > Exit" (Windows: Firefox/File > Exit; Mac: Firefox > Quit Firefox; Linux: Firefox/File > Quit)
I tried disabling each add-on individually and restarting FireFox each time and it still came up blank. It only works if I start in safe mode.
Did you disable all extensions at the same time?
You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.
- Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.
You can check if there is an update for your graphics display driver and check for hardware acceleration related issues.
I disabled them one at a time restarting after each and all at once. Disabling hardware acceleration also did not fix it.
Do you have a userContent.css file in the chrome folder in the Firefox profile folder?
In Firefox Safe mode these changes are effective:
- all extensions are disabled (about:addons)
- default theme is used (no persona)
- userChrome.css and userContent.css are ignored (chrome folder in profile folder)
- default toolbar layout is used
- JavaScript JIT compilers are disabled
- hardware acceleration is disabled (Options > Advanced > General)
- plugins are not affected
- preferences are not affected
No. I don't even have a chrome folder.
