Amazon.com web page autofills the search box.

Every time I launch the amazon.com website, it autofills the search box with "deskjet 2512 ink". It also autofills every time I refresh or click on any item on the page. It darkens the page, and I can't do anything until I go to the search box and delete it. Then it comes right back on the next amazon page change or refresh. The only way to keep it from doing this is is to set privacy to "Firefox will never remember history", but then the Last Pass extension requires a manual sign in.

This happens with Firefox 64.0.2, but has been happening with previous versions, and also with Edge and Chrome. Same problem with all the browsers. Even a fresh reinstall of Windows (three times!) hasn't solved the problem.

It's very annoying, to say the least! Any ideas?

Not sure how your installs are but I use Amazon and never had that problem. So it sounds like something is interfering with the Amazon search to cause it to go darken and then return. I think something like a addon maybe Lastpass or something else is interfering with the browser function on the website. Disable all addons and use without and see if the problem is there and then turn one by one on while turning off the previous addon to find the culprit.

WestEnd, you hit the nail on the head! I never would have thought Last Pass was my problem, but it was. Somehow, it was autofilling the Amazon.com search box everytime it appeared on my screen. When I disabled Last Pass, the search box did not autofill. When i re-enabled it, the search box started autofilling again.

Thank you very much for solving this problem. I use Amazon a lot, and this was making it nearly unusable for me. Problem solved!

And many thanks to McCoy for his thoughtful suggestions too.

Hello mikesellon,

You may already have tried this, but just in case - would you do this please :

3-bar menu (or Tools) => Options => Privacy & Security

Under History choose "Use custom settings for history"

Check : "Remember browsing and download history"

Check : "Clear history when Firefox closes" and to the right click "Settings" and check "Cache" and "Form & Search History".

Personal note :

You mention using the LastPass extension - would you consider Firefox Password Manager instead  ?

See : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/password-manager-remember-delete-change-and-import

Thanks for your response. Yes, I had tried exactly what you suggested under "Privacy and Security", but I did it again just now, following your directions. Unfortunately, it had no effect on my problem.

Again, thank you McCoy. I could remove the Last Pass extension and use Firefox Password Manager, but I'd still have to set privacy to "Firefox will never remember history". I'd prefer not to have to do that, if possible.

And, I'm not sure what effect that would have on Firefox Password Manager, though I'm guesssing I'd then have to sign back into it with my Master Password each time I launched my browser, which would be kind of a pain in the rear.

As this happens with every browser - maybe you'd best contact Amazon at this point .......
