I was having a problem with Verizon (AOL) email and deleted my Verizon email account then reestablished it (I have other accounts). All my folders & emails for the Verizon account are gone. (My other accounts are fine.) I also have a backed-up profile. How can I reestablish the Verizon account's prior folder structure and emails without losing the newer emails or messing up the other accounts?

If you deleted/removed a mail account then you would not see something you had deleted. That would be expected.

First - if you have new emails in the new POP verizon account - move them into 'Local Folders' mail account.

How was this 'verizon' account initially set up? If it was a POP account then the profile folders should still have the files stored. If you then added it back and you created it as a POP account again, then you can easily just point the new account to look at the old account folders.

  • Right click on verizon pop mail account name folder in Folder Pane and select 'Settings'

It will open the 'Account Settings' in a new tab.

  • click on 'Server Settings'
  • bottom right you will find 'Local directory:'
  • Make window wide enough so you can see all the contents .

The 'Local directory:' text will say something similar to this:

  • C:\Users\User Name\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\xyz3t802.default\Mail\mail.verizon-1.com

When you created the same verizon account again, Thunderbird will use same name for the mail account, but it will add a number.

  • Click on the 'Browse' button

A new window opens showing the contents of that location - your new pop account files.

  • Go up to the 'Mail' folder and select the original verizon pop mail account name folder.

The original pop verizon account is likely to have the same name but without the added number.

  • Then click on 'Select Folder'

The 'Local directory:' text will say something similar to this: C:\Users\User Name\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\xyz3t802.default\Mail\mail.verizon.com

Exit and restart Thunderbird Check the folders. If you have selected the correct account name folder, then all folders and emails should appear. The old popstate.dat file does not know about the latest emails on server and so it should download them again - but that is assuming you selected to 'Keep messages on server'. If you did not have that settings then do not despair you can move all the emails in 'Local Folders' back into suitable folders in the verizon pop account.
