I've noticed recently that everytime I restart Firefox all my plugins dissapear. When I check plugin list in settings they are marked as installed and turned on but... they do not work and the only way to get them back is to install them again. I can live without some of them but the fact that I have to install firebug 2 or 3 times a day just because I closed a browser is really upsetting...

It did not help at all...

Try to delete the pluginreg.dat file in the Firefox Profile Folder and maybe addons.sqlite as well to reset the plugin registry databases.

See Re-initializing the plugins database:

Did not help either...

Sorry I missed that you mentioned Firebug and that is an extension, so you have a problem with the extensions and not the plugins.

It is possible that there is a problem with the file(s) that store the extensions registry.

Delete the extensions.* files (e.g. extensions.sqlite, extensions.ini) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder to reset the extensions registry.

New files will be created when required.

See "Corrupt extension files":

If you see disabled or not compatible extensions in "Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" then click the Tools button at the left end side of the Search Bar to check if there is a compatibility update available.

If this hasn't helped then also delete the addons.sqlite file.

I deleted extensions.* files and still firebug is not available after application restart... However though here's a content of extension.log file that was created:
