Firefox Crash Report on Exit, Crash Report Fails

Okay, I keep reporting this, but still no response/answer. I PROPERLY exit Firefox (including selecting "Restart Firefox" after an update. I ALWAYS (except in safe mode) get a Crash Report notification. I ALWAYS, send the Crash Report. It ALWAYS Fails (There was a problem sending...). This has been happening for some time now. Is it simply because I am still on XP? Everything else is up to date or disabled And even IF the Crash Report is generated because of being on XP, shouldn't it still go through? I much prefer Firefox to any other browser, but nearly every time there is an update some thing else goes wrong and this started at least 3-4 versions ago or thereabouts. I now have somewhere (maybe?) a couple hundred or so unsent Crash Reports.

Sometimes, it just stops after creating the report. That is why the report can be sent manually.

And after one power outage shutdown and one proper shutdown the problem is back (remains)! I still don't know why I was asked about Nightly, and if it's on my computer how it got there. This is absurd - even Microsoft would have this handled by now....

Also, how do I submit the reports that about:crashes says were submitted, but the Crash Reporter said failed (There was a problem sending your report)?

The crash report is about Firefox 45.0.2 on the release channel as you can see in the details. Attached (linked) crash reports are only for information and found by searching Bugzilla for the signature. There is no guarantee that they apply.

Nightly is one of the four main development channels of Firefox which you are not likely using.

Should I have Nightly (which I apparently do), and if not, how do I remove it?

Do YOU have any clues as to why I keep crashing? In Add-ons I have I have 5 Extensions; AdBlocker Plus, Autofill Forms (created for Firefox), and MyPoints Score! A toolbar add-on to enable points application for shopping - all are up-to-date. 2 have been disabled for a long time, they are Skype Click-to-call, and Microsoft .NET Framework Assistant (not really sure what this is). After disabling the 3 active ones, then reactivating, the problem was gone, and I was sure to use them before shutting down to see if it triggered anything. But after an unintentional shutdown (power outage) and a purposeful proper (right side menu icon in toolbar drop-down, click power button), I again got the crash message, which BTW is also accompanied by a Microsoft Plug-in Container error crash report.

If it's of any significance, I have several Plugins and though all are up to date, some (like Silverlight) say they need to be updated and all but 2 are ask to activate (which I am rarely) or deactivated.

As stated, this all started around ver. 37.1. Should I just live with it and not worry?

You only have a Nightly version if you see on "Help > About" that you are on the Nightly update channel and have Firefox 49.0a1 See:

The bug report you posted on the previous page showed that are were using 45.0.2 on the release update channel, so it is likely that you do not need to take action.

Still having the Crash reporter and Microsoft Plug-in container.exe crash appearing on exit. Does anyone care but me?

Are you using "Clear history when Firefox closes" to clear personal data like cookies?

You can check for issues caused by plugins.

  • set plugins to "Ask to Activate" on the about:addons page ("3-bar" menu button or Tools > Add-ons > Plugins)
  • plugins are not affected by Firefox Safe Mode

Yes - usually everything but Active Log-ins, Form & Search History, and all Data. Is this the possible cause?

All my plug-ins but for Shockwave Flash and OpenH264 Codec (which are set to Always) are set to Ask to Activate (2 are NEVER), and have been for quite some time. Should I change them all?

FredMcD - I hope you know that this reply was mainly worthless. As a SuMo, I would hope you would "read the room". I am a reasonably intelligent, computer literate user (probably less than 25% of your answer seekers, but way more than most). I gleaned that the line from the report mentioned Nightly, but if you were a little more explicative, I could possibly DO something with your information and responses - I mean, I inferred you had seen it somewhere in my reports, but not knowing what it is, does, or why it's mentioned and in what context, to show me the line above is like showing me a line of random ascii characters - unreadable and unintelligible to me. I am writing this to you not to complain (okay maybe a leetle), but in the hopes of helping the next person you are responding to. I truly appreciate your willingness to help, it's just it could be a lot more helpful a little expanded (and maybe dumbed down a touch).

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: Keep until: "I close Firefox"

You can create a cookie "Allow" exception to keep specific cookies.

I have it set that way already but for Not having "Clear History when Firefox Closes" disabled - which I will attempt now - this also leaves cache and browsing history uncleared (although I think the cache will clear when I run CCleaner (which I do after most every Start or restart). Should I then use the clear option in History? Before or after I close Firefox? Thanks!

So I disabled the "Clear history when Firefox closes" feature, and after the 2nd closure started getting the Crash Report (and failure). Also got more Script errors (Had them bad for a while had followed the instructions to fix them and they were non-existent for a time, but have been getting more and more frequent since I started this post - coincidence? So while I got the Crash Report (and message of failure to send thereof) my last close did not trigger the MS Plug-in Container error reporter (although that has occurred occasionally, so not sure if it's even relevant). In other words worse than when I started.
