Did the latest Firefox revision change the themes?

I recently noticed that my Firefox appearance is different than it had been. The top header is white (instead of dark) and the space between lines in the bookmark list is excessively large. I have tried to find the source of this change by changing themes, but to no avail. This change occurred around the time that a new revision of Firefox was installed. Surely Firefox would not have made this change? I hate the appearance. It makes reading and browser use much more difficult. Any suggestions on how to get back the previous theme settings? And if Firefox did indeed make this change, then I say shame on you for doing so without the user's permission or providing an option to opt out of such a change.

The new FF has a theme called Proton. And some of the browser elements were changed and or removed, like the icons in the options/settings listing.

Many do not like the new theme. But it was designed for making smart phones a bit better to see. However, aside from the look of Proton, there are behind the scenes fixes.

I've been a bit vocal about the theme. So mayyyybe someone at the very top will hear us at the very bottom.  :-)

Thanks for providing your explanation, as it was very helpful. Firefox probably doesn't look at these user's forums. Need to find a way to communicate directly to Firefox so that we can express our dislike of their changes.

Hi,

We appreciate your feedback on the recently redesigned Firefox browser.

We set out in 2021 to reimagine Firefox's design to be fast, modern and inviting. With the latest 89 release, we’re bringing you a modern new look designed to streamline and calm things down so you have a fresh new web experience every time you use Firefox.

Is there anything in particular that you would like to see improved or fixed?

oh, its a lot of star trek brainiacs that want to take FF to where no man has gone. so they forget about the rest of us stuck on earth.  :-)

but i think Mozilla is looking at these posts and the heart aches caused for true passionate FireFox users.

so there's always a possibility that the next version will be different.

let us know if you still need help.

in any case, glad to be of help.. :-)

This is a reply to Seburo:

Firefox might have thought that their redesign was inviting, but I find it anything but. The thing that I don't like is that the top header is now very light in color. This means that there is virtually no contrast with the items on top, making reading those items very difficult! In addition, the bookmark list has changed. Space between list of bookmarks has increased, which makes looking for bookmarks much more difficult.

I am all for faster browsers, but let's not get carried away with appearance redesigns that do not help improve one's experience. I would very much appreciate going back to the previous Firefox appearance.

Notice would've been good and an opt-out option would've been even better. Here's the posted "fix" for some of the UI visual disaster. Fingers crossed they don't tear this option away from us and good luck!

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box in the page, type or paste browser.proton.enabled and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the preference to switch between true (new design) and false (old design)
